We’re honored to share that ABC Sign Corp has been named a winner in the World Sign Associates (WSA) 2025 Coolness Sign Design Competition—Refurbished Sign category—for our work on the historic Mohawk Theater marquee.

About the award

WSA announced its annual Coolness winners following the association’s 78th Annual Meeting in Chicago (Sept 18–20). Entries recognize the most innovative electrical signs produced in the past year across multiple categories—including Freestanding (two sizes), Wall Sign, Potpourri, and Refurbished—plus an overall Best in Show.

The winning project: Mohawk Theater, reborn

For three decades the Mohawk Theater sat closed and crumbling. Our client asked us to recreate the 1938 marquee—capturing the classic look with modern performance. We fully rehabilitated the sign, rebuilt the underside of the canopy with recessed LED lighting, and replaced every neon run with 8mm LED flexible tubing to deliver heritage style with today’s reliability and efficiency.

Why this matters

Historic restorations demand careful balance: authenticity for the community, durability for the owner, and code-compliant electrical and lighting for long-term operation. This project showcases ABC’s ability to honor original design intent while upgrading to modern technology—a recipe we apply across theaters, campuses, hospitality, and municipal landmarks.
